Tesco has recognised WEPA UK for its innovation in logistics at Tesco’s Packaged Supply Chain Conference in Welwyn this month.
WEPA UK won Best Move Plan for its initiative alongside Accolade Wines to maximise use of truck space headed to Tesco depots. This combined effort has resulted in significant environmental benefits, reducing number of trucks on the road and the resultant emissions.
With 80% of shoppers wanting stores to reduce environmental impact, and with transport responsible for 23% of Tesco’s emissions, it was clear that WEPA UK could work on the part it plays in this.
Due to weight restrictions, Accolade Wines wasn’t utilising the full space in its trucks when making deliveries. Since WEPA UK s manufacturing plant was in close proximity of the Accolade Wines depot, they joined forces to load paper pallets into this available space to maximise efficiency of deliveries.
In the next couple of months more Tesco depots will be receiving combined Accolade Wines/WEPA UK deliveries. All of this work will contribute to helping Tesco reducing the carbon footprint of these products. And is just one part of WEPA UK’s drive to reduce its environmental impact in the coming years.
