A Family Story

We have a long history in paper making and converting. Here is our story, spanning over 70 years.

WEPA Group History

The WEPA Group is a family-owned business, backed by 70 years’ paper manufacturing excellence and expertise. It was founded in 1948 in Arnsberg, Germany by Paul Krengel. It specialised in selling a broad range of paper products consisting of baking paper, stationery, art paper, sandwich and lining paper.

In 1953, the WEPA Group became a bona fide manufacturing company, and in 1958 it began producing its household paper products. It has continued to expand and invest in its operations ever since. Boasting state-of-the-art facilities in several locations across Europe, the company provides paper products to meet a vast array of consumer requirements.

Now the third largest manufacturer of hygiene paper products in Europe, the WEPA Group is one of the leading private-label specialists in the consumer market. With modern processing facilities for recycled fibres, WEPA Group has established itself as an expert in high quality, sustainable and ecological products.

Bridgend Paper Mill itself was built in 1950, over the following decades the site passed through several owners. From 2016 approximately £25m has been invested in new modern lines and technical equipment ensuring Bridgend remains at the global forefront of the paper industry. In 2018 the WEPA Group purchased the current site and is now solely managed by the family-owned company.

Formerly Northwood and WEPA, in the summer of 2018 the WEPA Group acquired all shares in its partner Northwood. WEPA UK was born, operating from its existing bases in Bolton and Bridgend.
